FCTV Exclusive: WHOI/USCG AUV Launch

The early days and hours of an oil spill or other environmental emergency are often critical to mitigating potential damage. As a result, the capability to respond rapidly to such an emergency, especially in remote or hard-to-reach locations, is one that the US Coast Guard has identified as important to its mission, and one that it is turning to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to help develop. FCTV was invited to be on hand to witness the first test as a US Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter from Joint Base Cape Cod picks up a WHOI-developed long-range autonomous underwater vehicle from a park in Woods Hole and deploys it in Buzzards Bay. Thank you to WHOI for collaborating on this video.
