The Rika Welch Community Impact Award was presented to Falmouth Community Television (FCTV) member and Treasurer Kevin K. Lynch at the Conference by the Sea in Plymouth, MA on November 2, 2012. The award goes to a group or an individual who has generated a project whose impact spoke directly to a clearer understanding of the cause being championed. The content, whether modest or large, would reflect the passion of the goal. Because of the use of community media resources, a greater empowerment of purpose and appreciation of the value of those resources is achieved.
Mr. Lynch was nominated by Debra Rogers, Executive Director and CEO of Falmouth Community Television. Ms Rogers was delighted to also present the award, stating that Mr. Lynch “has served his country and our community in numerous ways, he is deserving of this recognition and more.” This statement is certainly proved by Mr. Lynch’s long record of accomplishments and services to his community.
Kevin is an active member of the Falmouth community and a current board member and producer of Falmouth Community Television. He is also a member of the Alliance for Community Media. Kevin’s work in inspiring community impact is broad reaching, extending globally, nationally, regionally and locally. He is a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army and the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and a Vietnam veteran combat helicopter pilot who was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses and 22 Air Medals. His military assignments have included Company Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, and General Staff Officer. He was a Master Army Aviator, a Helicopter Instructor Pilot, and Test Pilot with over 8000 hours of flight time. Colonel Lynch is currently the Commander of the Cape Cod Coastal Civil Air Patrol where he is a citizen volunteer. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from University of Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston University.
Kevin is one of the seven original members of Falmouth Community Television. Married to Betty Lynch, a father of four and grandfather of nine, he still found time over the years to produce hundreds of productions which showcase our community, engage our neighbors, educate and inform our citizenry and highlight our local non-profit agencies and their services through programs such as Falmouth Military Support Group, Falmouth Public Library Lecture Series, Earth Day, Falmouth Mass Memories (an oral history program), Falmouth Police Memorial Day, Fight the Flu with Facts, Falmouth Service Center Food Day, What People Think, The Falmouth Road Race, The Falmouth Christmas Parade, Falmouth Historical Society features, Falmouth Alive (a monthly program highlighting local non-profit organizations), The Falmouth Disabilities Commission, Falmouth First with Kevin Callahan, The Falmouth Public Library Renovation, Candidate Forums and Meet the Candidate programs along with many, many more too numerous to list.
Kevin has been a Falmouth Town Meeting member for over 20 years. He is the current vice chairman and former long-time chairman of the Falmouth Bikeways Committee.
As a current member of the FCTV Board of Directors, Kevin has worked to make FCTV a vital part of the Falmouth Community. As the former chair and current member of the Falmouth Cable Advisory Committee, he worked for three years to secure a strong cable license for the Town of Falmouth and for Falmouth Community Television. Through his efforts FCTV received an increase in channels, funding and a strong 10 year contract between FCTV and our town to grow public, education and government access.
Falmouth Community Television extends sincere thanks and congratulations to Colonel Kevin K. Lynch.
