The work of award-winning, fine art photographer Michael Petrizzo will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from December 4, 2016 through January 5, 2017. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception: Sunday, December 4, from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Michael Petrizzo is originally from South Windsor, Connecticut. He moved to Falmouth in June 2012 after spending summers on the Cape for many years. Michael is a graduate of American International College in Springfield, Class of ’75. “I have no formal art training. I’ve learned from online videos, and practical experience,” he says. “I first began shooting in 1979 after purchasing my first 35 mm camera; an Olympus OM 10.”
Michael is adept at the marriage of traditional photography and digital techniques using the latest technology to create beautiful works of art. Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Arizona are his favorite places to shoot, and the numerous vistas, sunsets, landscapes, boats and lighthouses offer endless opportunities to capture images of the home he loves so much.
About his work, Michael explains, “Many artists have influenced my work; from classical painters of the past, with the ways they painted light, to contemporary professional landscape photographer Peter Lik. My artistic tools of choice are a camera, computer, tablet, and electronic stylus. I photograph subjects ranging from landscapes, to people, to still lifes, and more. I edit all of my images using programs such as Photoshop, and plug-ins; which are editing programs that work in conjunction with Photoshop. Each photo is an individual creation, and as such, is edited differently. There is no magic button to be pressed to create the result I’m looking for. Some images are ‘painted’ digitally as opposed to being painted with oils or acrylics. My goal is always to bring out the beauty in the world around us, to bring the viewer along, and to provide a temporary escape from a troubling world.”
He was recently recognized by the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts for photographic excellence in their annual print competition. He was awarded 2 judges choice awards for images entitled 'A New Dawn' and 'Outlaw'. He received a Court of Honor award for best in category for 'A New Dawn' and a Highest Total Score award for a new member. His works hang in homes and offices from coast to coast, in Europe and in New Zealand.
A member of Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Massachusetts, Professional Photographers of Cape Cod, Falmouth Artists Guild, and South Cape Artists, he is also the owner of Fine Art Productions, a local giclée service for artists and photographers.
