Art Quilts by Sue Colozzi will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from April 3 through April 28, 2016. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception, Sunday, April 3, from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Sue Colozzi is a Boston area fiber artist who specializes in detailed landscape quilts. Her current work combines her two lifetime interests of sewing and art. Sue has always loved the New England landscape, particularly the different neighborhoods of Boston and towns on the Cape. She uses her fiber skills to portray these scenes as quilts, combining the textures and patterns of fabric along with stitching to form the buildings, flora, and seascapes.
Originally a Wisconsin native, Sue moved to the Boston area after earning a fine arts degree in weaving from Syracuse University. Her earlier work - woven sculptures and pillows - were shown at the Society of Arts and Crafts on Newbury Street and Roche Bobois furniture store in Boston. After retiring from a public school teaching career in 2010, Sue started to experiment with landscape quilting.
Sue has exhibited her quilts in local art festivals, the Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, and the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton. Her quilts have also been included in national quilt shows in Hampton, VA, and Lowell, MA. One of Sue’s quilts is part of the Falmouth Hospital collection. Several of her quilts have earned Viewer’s Choice Awards, both at the Whistler House Museum and Lexington’s Rising Star Quilters Guild Annual Shows. She regularly exhibits her quilts at the Falmouth Art Center and has just finished teaching a landscape quilting workshop there. Sue lives in Reading and Falmouth, MA, and teaches sewing at North Shore Community College in Danvers and privately.
Sue is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, and has a quilt in the current Art As Quilt exhibit at Highfield Hall in Falmouth.
