Alliance Chair Thanks Chairman Serrano, Calls on FCC to Act
Statement from Debra Rogers, Chair,
Board of Directors, Alliance for Community Media
June 9, 2010
"The Alliance for Community Media is grateful to Chairman Jose Serrano (House Appropriations Subcommitte on Financial Services and General Government) for his leadership today in calling on the FCC to make sure that PEG access channels are not left behind or prejudiced in the digital era. Chairman Serrano pointed to the promise of the Cable Act and its provision of PEG access channels as compensation to communities for granting cable operators use of their rights-of-way.
"The Alliance needs for FCC Chairman Genachowski to make actionable his response that the Commission has the authority to protect and preserve PEG access and his pledge to enforce the Cable Act by granting the ACM et al petition challenging the statutory compliance of AT&T's Channel 99 'PEG solution.' The ACM urges Commission action in safeguarding public, educational and governmental channels and preventing discriminatory treatment of those channels."
