February 2009: "Photographs" by Members of the Upper Cape Camera Club

Photos by Members of the Upper Cape Camera Club

An exhibition of black and white and color photographs by members of the Upper Cape Camera Club was on display at the Maser Gallery at FCTV Community Television, 310 Dillingham Avenue, from February 8 - 26. Reception: Sunday, February 8, 3 to 5 p.m.

The Upper Cape Camera Club is comprised of approximately 40 members from the Falmouth-Bourne area, ranging in age from high school students to retirees. Milt Williamson, the club’s Program Chairman, describes the members as a mix of beginners and serious amateur photographers, each with varying levels of subject interest and accomplishments. The club meets twice monthly from September to June at the West Falmouth Library. New members are welcome to share their photographic interests and expertise.

Since its founding in 2004, the Upper Cape Camera Club has been steadily increasing its membership roster. Combining educational programs with show-and-tell nights, members learn how to see and take better photographs from their peers as well as from guest speakers who are professional commercial photographers and photojournalists from the State of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The club is a member of the regional New England Camera Club Council (NECC) with member clubs throughout New England. The Council supplies each member club with supporting materials and hosts an annual conference of photography one weekend in July at the UMASS-Amherst campus.

The photographs at Maser are an eclectic selection of approximately 40 images, according to Mr. Williamson, the club’s NECC representative. There is no theme, rather a sampling of subjects reflecting each member’s personal vision including nature, landscape, portraiture photographed on any format – film or digital, from purism to creative manipulation. Among those exhibiting are: charter members Jean Laramie (the club’s first President), Ed Celette (current President), David Gouveia, who exhibits work at Main Street Gallery in Falmouth, Milt Williamson, and Tom Noonan (the club’s Competition Chairman).

Many of the members show in juried and non-juried shows in Falmouth and with other Cape-wide organizations.
