January 2009: "Paintings" - The Art of Tighe Hanson
An exhibition of paintings by Harwich resident, Falmouth-based employee Tighe Hanson was on display at the Maser Gallery at FCTV Community Television, 310 Dillingham Avenue, from January 4 - 29.
Mr. Hanson works in various mediums – nonrepresentational acrylics, plein air gouache painting and ink drawing. His subject matter comes from his wandering around Cape Cod on his bicycle. “I ride my bike to various places to find inspiration,” he said. “It’s an exercise/art combo thing”.
Mr. Hanson has been drawing and painting since six years old, when a dream he had convinced him that “if you can see it, you can draw it”, which has been his mantra for the past thirty-three years.
Born in Iowa, his family moved around to Texas, Florida and England. A graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in painting, Mr. Hanson was bitten by wanderlust, traveling through Europe, and Egypt, painting the world through his vision. Once resettled in Cambridge, MA, he and wife Ann relocated to Cape Cod. Now a licensed practical nurse (LPN), he has worked in the medical/surgery field in hospitals, home care and assisted living facilities. Currently is employed at Gosnold Treatment Center in Falmouth, painting in his spare time.
Mr. Hanson has exhibited in various solo and group shows in galleries in Massachusetts, including The Brush Art Gallery (Lowell), Blue Mountain Gallery (New York), Digital Equipment Corporation (Marlboro), Cape Museum of Fine Arts (Dennis), Gallery 333 (Falmouth) among others in Worcester, Boston and Manhattan. Also, he is work has been featured in publications such as “Open Studio Press”, “ARTspeak”, The Worcester Magazine, and others.
Says Mr. Hanson. “I use objects, landscapes or things from my imagination that attract me. And I try to make paintings from them that interest me visually. “I look to create a feeling of order, as a result, not necessarily meaning”.
Mr. Hanson is represented by The Works Gallery in Wellfleet, MA.
