November at Maser Gallery: "Light is Where YOU Find It" - Artworks by Leo Lechtenberg
Artwork by Leo Lechtenberg will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from November 4 through November 29, 2012. The public is invited to the Opening Reception: Sunday, November 4, from 3-5 pm.
In 2011 Leo Lechtenberg and his wife Jean returned from three years living with the rural people of Bolivia. There Leo painted the mountains and the country people with whom he lived. Since that time he resides and works from his studio in Falmouth, MA.
A consistent metaphor in his works has been the veil:
“It seems as though a veil hangs between us and the light that is our home, so that we live now in a twilight mix of joy and sorrow. The light is filtered, sometimes blocked from our sight. But, nonetheless, the light does break through - in unforeseen ways and places, sometimes in the thinnest ray and other times in a full and joyous symphony of color. We may catch a glimpse of the light in the beauty of a tiny blossom, the sun after rain, the roaring surf, a friend’s kind face. Any part of creation may unexpectedly open for us a window to joy. This is what the artist attempts to relay.”
~ Leo Lechtenberg
Mr. Lechtenberg paints in oils and acrylics, occasionally in watercolor and transparent polyester resins. Although he has supported his family in other careers, Leo has consistently painted where he lived - in Frascati, Italy, Detroit and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, along the Mississippi in Wisconsin, in Minnesota, St. Louis and Middleboro MA.
Mr. Lechtenberg attended the Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts and earned an MEd at Boston College. He has worked as high school teacher, university campus minister, and computer-aided designer of automobiles and cameras. His artworks are in the collection of the University of Detroit and numerous private collections.
