Artwork by Ruth Leech, Kate Aubrey, Sigrid Hecker, Adele Huestis, and Betty Jameson will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from September 4 through September 27, 2012. The public is invited to the Closing Reception, Thursday, September 27 from 4-6 pm.

Adele Huestis graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City. She studied with Charles Reid. Four of her paintings are published in his book “Pulling Your Paintings Together.” She also had a series of watercolors published in Watercolor Magazine, summer of 2004 issue; and in Splash Book #8. Adele has been a juried member of many national watercolor societies including Georgia Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. “The human figure is my favorite subject matter,” says Adele. “I like portraying my subjects in a light and lyrical manner.”

Ruth Leech is a self taught artist who has studied with several local teachers: Diana Lee, Grace Stergis, Lois Cohen, Dan Hanagan, Marguerite Miller and Jane Lincoln. Ruth’s pastels have earned her many awards, including Best Pastel in the Cape Cod Art Association’s National Juried Competition in 2008. Ruth is currently Exhibition Co-Chair at Falmouth Artists Guild and has served in this role for the past 8 years. She also facilitates a weekly figure painting group at the Guild. “Painting has caused me to really look and encounter what is around me,” explains Ruth. “Now more than ever, I have a place in this life just to be happy and be me.”

Kate Aubrey has been a devoted watercolorist for 35 years. She also works in multimedia, incorporating various combinations of gouache, pen-and-ink, water-soluble crayon, and pastels into her watercolors. Kate has participated in the Falmouth Art Center’s juried and member shows, where she has won two First Place Water Media awards since her arrival on Cape Cod last May. She is a juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Artists Association, a very active member of and teacher for the Falmouth Art Guild and an associate member of the New England Watercolor Society. Says Kate: “Colors bring me the greatest joy. There must be dark and light and the design those two bring with them, but I revel in the colors. Red enlivens; I want to know everything about it. Green is the true lifeblood. Grays hold secrets almost seen; they give order to life.”

Sigrid Hecker is a local artist with fifteen years of portrait and landscape painting experience. Her preferred medium is oil with a style that leans towards impressionism. She has taken courses and workshops at The Art Students League in New York City, the Woodstock School of Art in New York State and the Falmouth Artist Guild on the Cape. Robin Kilgor, Dan Hanagan and Lois Griffel have been her most influential instructors. She exhibits primarily at the Falmouth Artist Guild. Sigrid speaks of her artistic philosophy: “To me painting is ultimately a solitary and self-engrossing activity. The artist’s challenge is to convey a personal interpretation of common elements: be it a dune in a landscape, the tilt of the head in a portrait, or the action in an abstract.”

Betty Jameson is a published poet and artist. Her paintings are in private collections across the United States and have won numerous awards on Cape Cod. She is also a mother, wife and grandmother of six.
