TELEVISION PRODUCTION CLASSES

FCTV will be offering a new series of television production classes starting in the Spring of 2006. Each course features hands-on instruction in selected areas of video production. Areas of concentration include studio production for both LIVE & taped TV shows, single and multiple camera field production and both linear tape and non-linear computer based editing.
ORIENTATION: Orientation is a 1 ½-hour class offered each month to all new members and open to the public. There is no obligation to attend this one session course but it is mandatory for anyone wanting to take other training or use FCTV facilities. Learn more about FCTV in the orientation.

BASIC FIELD PRODUCTION: This basic course is designed for anyone interested in video field production for the purpose of creating their own public access television shows. There are three sessions (two hours each) meeting twice per week for one week, including one apprenticeship of actual field taping. This course provides hands on training in the operation of our Canon Mini-DV field camcorders and all optional accessories. Certification will be given upon completion of a final project in addition to scheduled classes.

BASIC STUDIO PRODUCTION: This basic course is designed for individuals & organizations interested in creating their own “in-studio” television production as a LIVE or taped public access show. There are four sessions, two workshops (two hours each) meeting twice per week for two weeks, and two apprencticeships as a crew member on a studio show. Hands on instruction in this course includes all the basic skills required to produce a multi-camera television show. This training covers camera operations, audio, lighting, video switching and directing. The class is completed with an apprenticeship or final taped video project in addition to scheduled classes, which is televised on Falmouth Community Television.

TOWN HALL CONTROL ROOM WORKSHOP: This is a one session, two-hour workshop for volunteers who want to become involved in their community and the democratic process. Learn how to cablecast important municipal meetings and serve democracy utilizing a state of the art multi-camera remote control room. The class meets at Falmouth Town Hall in the Control Room located adjacent to the Selectmen Meeting Room.

ADVANCED FIELD PRODUCTION : This advanced course in video field production utilizes multiple field cameras on location, using the remote production van and the portable production roadcase. The course consists of two classes (two hours each) filled with hands on activities. This class simplifies the operations of multi-camera taped or live television productions on location.

REMOTE STREAMING LAPTOP WORKSHOP: Once you’ve been trained in the advanced field production classes, learn what else you can add! The Remote Streaming Laptop Workshop will teach you all about “wireless” cameras for multi-camera field shoots. This is the newest digital advancement that we are able to offer, so sign up now! Nnovia PORTABLE HARD DISK RECORDER: Welcome to another phase of producing shows in the digital age. Now you can record your field footage directly to a portable hard-drive. The footage can then be brought into Final Cut Pro for editing or dropped onto our TeraByte Server for playback. Find out how this new gadget works in this one-session class. CAROUSEL COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD WORKSHOP: This one session, two-hour workshop is geared towards our members from non-profit organizations. Now you can create and manage your own pages on the Channel 13 Community Bulletin Board. This workshop will explain the details and components behind “Carousel” and show you how to use the very easy and user-friendly program. Learn how to promote the events and happenings of your non-profit organization!

Learn how to properly light your talent, props, and some tricks of the trade to make people think they’re seeing something they’re not. ADVANCED AUDIO WORKSHOP: This advanced one-session, three-hour workshop explains the details and components behind sound in television. Learn about proper audio techniques, what a compressor is and does, what phantom power is used for and the differences between formats of video tape and what they means to the sound quality of your show.

SPECIAL KIDS WORKSHOPS
FCTV KIDS NEWS: This two week class is for Middle School Kids who want to learn about television by producing their own news program. Students will experience all aspects of television by operating cameras, creating graphics, setting up lights and audio, directing and hosting. This class offers hands-on training that will culminate in a news program that will air on FCTV throughout the summer.

Digital Storytelling: This class is for kids aged 10-16 who want to learn about their family history and to design and produce a 3-5 minute digital story about their family. This workshop will include hands-on training in the use of digital field camera operation and computer editing using Apple computers with a variety of digital software including iPhoto and Imovie.

FCTV VIDEO PRODUCTION
INDIVIDUAL CLASSES
BASIC NON-LINEAR EDITING: This basic one session class covers the standard skills required for computer editing to complete your own public access television program. Instruction in the Apple based "i-Movie" computer editing systems. A final editing project completes the student’s certification.

ADVANCED NON-LINEAR EDITING: This two session, two-hour course trains students in the Advanced Apple Based Final Cut Pro Non-Linear editing system. This system utilizes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects.

**CANON GL-series DIGITAL CAMERA WORKSHOP: This one session, two hour workshop is for FCTV members who are ALREADY certified in Basic Field Production but may be unfamiliar with the use of FCTV’s newest, most high-tech, digital cameras.

Note: You may register for any course at the FCTV office Sunday through Thursday 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Signed parental consent is required for any member under 18 years of age. Anyone who resides, works in Falmouth or attends schools in Falmouth is eligible to participate in classes.
