FCTV-13 Workshop Schedule

Spring 2004

FCTV will offer several of its television production classes through May 2004. Each course concentrates on hands-on instruction in selected areas of video production.

Areas of concentration include studio production for both live and taped TV shows, single camera and multiple camera field production and both linear tape and non-linear computer based editing.

ORIENTATION: The 90 minute Orientation is offered once a month to all new members and is open to the general public. There are no obligations to attend this one session course but it is mandatory for all future FCTV members wishing to take basic or advanced training classes or to use station facilities. The Orientation includes information about FCTV, rules, procedures and a tour of the facility.

How to Effectively Use Your Home Camcorder : This mini-workshop is specially designed for folks who have just purchased a new camcorder or just aren't sure what all the functions are on their current camcorder. Students should bring their camera and owners manual with them to the class and expect to have fun!

BASIC FIELD PRODUCTION: This course is designed for anyone interested in video field production for the purpose of creating their own public access television shows. There are four sessions which last for two hours per session with two sessions each week for only two weeks. This course will provide hands on training in the operation of super VHS and Digital Mini-DV field camcorders and all optional accessories. The classes also concentrate on advanced camera controls and techniques. Certification will be given upon completion of a final project in addition to scheduled classes.

BASIC STUDIO PRODUCTION: This basic six session course is designed for individuals and organizations interested in creating their own 'in-studio' television production as a live or taped public access show. Hands on instruction in this course includes: all the basic skills required to produce a multi-camera television show. This training covers camera operations, audio, lighting, video switching and directing. The class is completed with a final taped video project which is televised on Falmouth Community TV.

BASIC NON-LINEAR EDITING I: This basic one session class covers the standard skills required for non-linear editing to complete your own public access television program. Instruction in either the stand alone "Screenplay" or the Apple based "i-Movie" non-linear editing systems. A final editing project completes the student^s certification.

ADVANCED FIELD PRODUCTION: This advanced two session course in video field production utilizes multiple field cameras, on location, using Falmouth Community Television^s Remote Production Van or Remote Field Case. The course consists of two three-hour classes. This class simplifies the complex operations of both taped and live TV productions on location.

MUNICIPAL CONTROL ROOM WORKSHOP: This is workshop is for producers who want to become involved in their community and the democratic process. Learn how to telecast important municipal meetings and serve democracy, utilizing a state of the art multicamera remote control room. The class meets at Falmouth's Town Hall in the Municipal Control Room located adjacent to the Selectmen Meeting room.

ADVANCED AFTER EFFECTS and PHOTOSHOP WORKSHOP: This two-two hour workshop specializes in computer design in After Effects software for use in coordination with Final Cut Pro editing. The first class will show you the basics of Adobe Photoshop. We will also learn how to integrate Photoshop & After Effects into Final Cut Pro. The second class will teach you basic After Effects techniques to use separately or with Final Cut Pro. Jazz up your non-linear edited projects with After Effects! (Students must have a strong working knowledge of computers)

FCTV VIDEO PRODUCTION INDIVIDUAL CLASSES


i-Photo: This one-two hour session is available by appointment with an instructor. Learn how to make photo slide-shows that include your favorite music and dissolves, all in a matter of minutes. Then export these picture shows and email them to friends and family!

ADVANCED FINAL CUT PRO NON-LINEAR EDITING: This two hour, two session course trains advanced editing students in the Advanced Apple Based Final Cut Pro Non-Linear editing system. This system utilizes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects. (See the advanced After Effects and Photoshop Workshop)

Limit: 2 Students per Class

BASIC LINEAR EDITING CLASS**: This single two hour class is available by appointment with an instructor. Material covers "Cuts-Only" & "A/B Roll" editing with Basic Scala Graphics included.

CANON GL-series DIGITAL CAMERA WORKSHOP**: This workshop is for FCTV members who are ALREADY certified in Basic Field Production but may be unfamiliar in the use of FCTV^s newest, most high-tech, digital cameras.

Limit: 5 Students per Class

Note: You may register for any course at the FCTV office Sunday through Thursday 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Members may be penalized for any cancellations made after the minimum of 24 hours notice. Signed parental consent is required for any member under 18 years of age. Anyone who resides, works for a Falmouth based organization or attends schools in Falmouth is eligible to participate in classes. All classes and class dates are subject to change.
