FCTV Fall 2005 Workshops


FCTV wil be offering more of its television production classes starting in the Fall of 2005. Each course concentrates on hands-on instruction in selected areas of fideo production. Areas of concentration include studio production for both LIVE and taped TV shows, single camera and multiple camera field production and both linear tape and non-linear computer based editing.

ORIENTATION: Orientation is a 1 ½-hour class offered each month to all new members and open to the public. There is no obligation to attend this one-session course but it is mandatory for anyone wanting to take other training or use FCTV facilities. Learn more about FCTV in the orientation.

TOWN HALL CONTROL ROOM WORKSHOP: This is a one-session two-hour workshop for volunteers who want to become involved in their community and the democratic process. Learn how to cablecast important municipal meetings and serve democracy utilizing a state of the art multi-camera remote control room. The class meets at Falmouth Town Hall in the control room located adjacent to the Selectmen's Meeting Room.

BASIC FIELD PRODUCTION: This basic course is designed for anyone interested in video field production for the purpose of creating their own public access television shows. There are four sessions (two hours each) which meet twice per week for two weeks. This course provides hands on training in the operation of our Canon Mini-DV field camcorders and all optional accessories. Certification will be given upon completion of a final project in addition to scheduled classes.

BASIC STUDIO PRODUCTION: This course is designed for individuals and organizations interested in creating their own "in-studio" television productions as live or a taped public access show. There are four sessions (two hours each) meeting twice per week for two weeks. Hands on instruction in this course includes all the basic skills required to producce a multi-camera television show. This training covers camera operations, audio, lighting, video switching and directing. The class is completed with a final taped video project in addition to scheduled classes, which is televised on Falmouth Community Television.

ADVANCED FIELD PRODUCTION: This advanced course in video field production utilizes multiple field cameras on location, using FCTV's Remote Production Van. Thd course consists of one class (2 hours) filled with hands on activities. This class simplifies the complex operations of both taped and live TV productions on location.

CAROUSEL COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD WORKSHOP: This one session, two-hour workshop is geared toward our members from non-profit organizations. Now you can create and manage your own pages on the Channel 13 Community Bulletin Board. This workshop will explain the details and components behind "Carousel" and show you how to use the very easy and user-friendly program. Learn how to promote the events and happenings of your non-profit organization!

DIGITAL STORY TELLING ADVANCED WORKSHOP: This workshop includes four two-hour sessions and is for anyone who wants to explore their family history and design and produce a 3 to 5-minute digital story about their family. This workshop will include hands-on training in the use of digital camcorder operation and computer editing using Apple computers with a variety of digital software including iPhoto and iMovie. ASK THE FCTV STAFF: This one session seminar will allow you the opportunity to ask the FCTV Staff those video production questions that have been bothering you for a while. Not sure why your VCR is constantly blinking 12:00? Not sure about the new mpeg server and how it will help FCTV in the future? Not sure why your camera never turns on for you? Then come on down to the studio for a night of questions and answers at the FCTV studio. We will be trying to hold these seminars every other month.

FCTV VIDEO PRODUCTION
INDIVIDUAL CLASSES

BASIC NONLINEAR EDITING: This basic one session class covers the standard skills required for computer editing to complete your own public access television program. Instruction is given in Apple's iMovie computer editing systems. A final editing project completes the student's certification.

ADVANCED NONLINEAR EDITING: This two-session two-hour course trains students in the advamced Apple based Final Cut Pro Non-Linear editing system. This system utilizes Adobe Photoship, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe After Effects.

**CANON GL-SERIES DIGITAL CAMERA WORKSHOP: This one-session two-hour workshop is for FCTV members who are ALREADY certified in Basic Field Production but may be unfamiliar with FCTV's newest, most high-tech digital cameras.

Note: You may register for any course at the FCTV office Sunday through Thursday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm, or Friday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. Signed parental consent is required for any member under 18 years of age. Anyone who resides, works in Falmouth or attends schools in Falmouth is eligible to participate in classes. All classes and class dates are subject to change.
